Local Events, Festivals & RestaurantsIn the summer, there is a special event practically every day: an arts and crafts market twice a week, a secondhand-goods market, a potters’ market, Les Toiles du Sud, an open-air cinema festival, the Under the Stars Theatre Festival, as well as regular concerts are on offer in rich and varied programmes with something for everyone.
Hiking, canoeing or boating around the breathtaking Gorge du Verdon is a must for the very active. A variety of water sports is available at the Lac du Verdon (water skiing, canoeing and swimming).
The Almanarre beach in Hyères, a strip which runs for almost 5km of fine sand and crystal clear waters is one of the most stunning beaches on the Var coastline. Kitesurfing and windsurfing are among a wide range of water sports on offer. Wildlife enthusiasts should note that the former saltworks of Hyères is an important halting place and habitat for flamingoes.
Venture further afield and explore Porquerolles Island with its rugged coast, steep cliffs and plunging inlets on one side and its beaches with fine sand and turquoise waters on the other!
